Introduction to Screen Readers

I originally posted a link to this on my old blog website, and it’s such a useful reference I thought I’d repost here.

Victor Tsaran produced a video entitled “An Introduction to Screen Readers“.

Victor Tsaran is an accessibility engineer at Yahoo! who focuses on developing best practices for the creation of websites that work well with screen readers. In this video, he provides an introduction to some of the things that work well in the world of screen readers and others that fare more poorly.

Adobe Captivate 5

Adobe has added to their recent updates with the release of Captivate 5, which can be bought as a standalone product or part of their E-learning Suite 2. The interface has had a complete overhaul and now looks like the stable of the other Adobe products, so people who are familiar with using Photoshop, Flash or Dreamweaver will feel more comfortable with the new interface.

Quick glance at new features:

  • The three sections Storyboard View, Edit View and Branching View have now been replaced with one editing view
  • New feature called master slide allows you to create many layouts and speed up the production process
  • Properties has been integrated as a panel, rather than a separate dialogue box

The new master slide feature has to be a main selling point for me and I’ll be upgrading as soon as my 30 day trial runs out, going back to version 4 without it has really slowed down my productivity, and it’s a killer feature that I can’t now do with out.

ZingMedia Website Relaunch

The ZingMedia website has been revamped to give the site a fresh look and feel and highlight the services that are on offer, such as:

All previous services relating to training, such as classroom based training, online training, workshops and Live! instructor-led training are delivered through the training website over at ZingMedia School.

The new ZingMedia website was built with XHTML, CS3, and some customsed PHP5. The site was hand-coded using the code view in Dreamweaver CS5 and Fireworks CS5 was used to create the wireframes, page layouts and final artwork that exisits on the website. Finally some customised JQuery was added on the homepage to produce the moving image slider.

Please feel free to get in touch if you like to book Sheila Farrell for bespoke training if you wish to learn the techniques used on this website.
